With the legalization of sports betting in Arizona, the state has seen an immediate surge that can be attributed to the mobile betting market.

In Sept. of 2021, Arizona legalized sports betting for the first time in the state’s history. A year later, the state has already produced a type of success that has risen above expectations. If there were any doubts about sports betting coming to Arizona, those same doubts cannot be seen now.

One major factor that has contributed to the immediate success Arizona found has been the mobile betting market. In Sept. of this year, Arizona earned $4.025M off retail betting, while mobile betting brought in $533.349M. Although retail betting has generated millions of dollars for the state, the numbers prove just how mobile-dominant Arizona truly is.

“We have seen in states with mobile and retail (or on-site) betting that the percentage split has been around 97.5% mobile, 2.5% retail, and Arizona is no different,” said Christopher Boan lead writer for BetArizona.com. “The sheer volume of mobile bets, versus what we see in retail-only markets, is substantial, so it’s no surprise that mobile sports betting has bolstered the state’s handle so far. “

The convenience of having these mobile betting apps allows people to place bets anywhere without any limitations. As long as an individual has a phone and internet access, they are free to place a wager on their favorite team.

Mobile betting apps have found various ways to draw in new user’s as well with the types of promotions they offer. These kinds of promotions may be unique and ones that are not necessarily offered in person at sportsbooks.

A prime example is one that is offered by FanDuel who are a popular gambling company. The company offers new customers a “no sweat first bet” with the opportunity to earn up to $1,000 back in free bets. This is an offer that people will certainly look to take full advantage of as it is one that cannot be found anywhere else.

Along with the ease and accessibility of mobile betting apps, fantasy sports contests have helped create another source of revenue for the state.

Before 2021, daily fantasy contests (DFS) were not legal in Arizona. However, companies such as Underdog Fantasy and RealTime Fantasy Sports have been able to benefit from the legalization of sports betting in Arizona.

According to the Arizona Department of Gaming, fantasy sports contests produced a total of $452,696.78 during the month of Sept. of this year. These numbers further prove how the legalization of sports betting has helped bring in a whole different kind of audience to the sports world. Individuals in Arizona can not only place traditional bets, but they can now participate in fantasy sports contests.

While only one year down in the books, there is even more room for growth for Arizona with the continuous surge of the sports betting industry.

“With sports betting being such a young industry, there is no doubt that change will continue to be the name of the game in the near-term,” said Boan.
